Welcome!

Welcome to Renai Buchanan: Peer Practice & Possibility, where supervision becomes a space of reflection, reimagining, and radical relationality. Rooted in lived experience, my practice centres ethical inquiry, mutual learning, and the co-creation of helpful, hope-filled practice—across disciplines, systems, and sectors.

Whether you’re a peer worker, leader, clinician, or someone moving through complex systems with care, you are welcome here.

About Renai

About Renai

Hi, I’m Renai Buchanan (she/they). I’m a queer, neurodivergent, chronically ill, and reasonably mad human who has been working in Lived Experience spaces for almost two decades. I come to this work shaped by both grassroots movements and formal systems, with a deep commitment to connection, community, and justice.

Over the years, I’ve worked in mental health, LGBTIQA+, sex work, disability, and suicide prevention spaces. I’ve held roles in grassroots spaces, on the frontlines and in various levels of leadership. I’ve worked in grassroots spaces, NGO's, peer-led organisations, and state government..

My practice is grounded in authenticity, accountability, connection, and a belief in human rights. I believe that when lived experience leads, change becomes more honest, ethical, and possible. I focus on co-creating reflective spaces where people across disciplines can challenge assumptions, explore power, and practice more relational, justice-informed care.

Outside of work, I’m with my tiny humans, my wife, and our village. You’ll find us surrounded by Lego, lullabies, and laundry, living an ordinary yet magical and joy-filled life.

Here are some of the trainings and programs that support my practice:

  • MHM2 Applied Lived Experience Supervision Skills Course (2025)Curtin Valuing Lived Experience Program (2023)

  • Emotional CPR Trainer Certification (2024)

  • Intentional Peer Support (2022)

  • WA Recovery College Educator Foundation Program (2024)

  • CoMHWA Peer Supervision Course (2022)

  • Alternatives to Suicide Facilitator Training (2018)

  • Emotional CPR Practitioner (2021)

This list doesn’t include the books, conversations, memberships, and everyday moments that also shape how I show up in this work. I’m always learning, unlearning, and finding new ways to grow.
